Plumes as Light Markers?

Does anybody out there agree that making people paint their non-contact helmets with some hideous coloured diamond or triangle is a really dumb idea? Do light combat archers and others actually like the markings?

In Lochac we use helmet plumes for non-contact fighters (not marshals - they have their badges of office to protect them). Contact fighters are banned from using plumes, but may have torses and mantles. The net effect is that the non-contact fighters look really good, don't have their expensive helmets ruined by an awful symbol, and everyone can tell straight away who is hittable and who is not hittable.

I suspect that some heavy fighters who use plumes elsewhere will cry foul at my suggestion that plumes be reserved for non-contact fighters, but how about it?
